How to introduce a healthy and positive communication in a group

Updated: Apr 6, 2020

Change your habits by changing your brain is possible. Discover how changing the language can positively affect relationships in a group.

It is fascinating to discover that our brains can change. Although the old belief saying “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”, recently neuroscientists discovered that creating new behaviors can be done by rewiring the brain.

Our brain creates neural pathways, consisting of neurons connected by dendrites, based on our habits and behaviors. The more frequent a behavior is performed, the more dendrites are created. You can picture these neural pathways as roads in the brain where each brain cell communicate with each other via a process named “neuronal firing.”

Participating in new activities* train our brains to create new neural pathways which get stronger with repetition until the behavior is the new standard.

With repetition, new behaviors become automatic like driving, reading or speaking a new language.

Estimation say that in average 3–6 months are a good rule of thumb to set up a new behavior and having it to become a habit.

By drawing upon senses like sight and touch, we can develop “stickiness” that helps form neural pathways.

What a better way to rewire your brain training the skill we use the most: language.

Instead of using our voice and language to share information, we can use Sign Language, based on the use of our hands and facial expressions.

Drawing images is a very powerful sense that can help build new neural pathways creating behavior change, like representing concepts with your hands.

Emotions can be got across by our facial expressions better than using words. Think about expressing happiness or excitement or anger or disappointment using your colorful face rather than an aseptic word.

According to research, people are much more capable of making changes when new behaviors are associated with positive emotions.

Sign language creates positive reinforcement, because it pushes us to be creative and open to trying new things.

You can change the relationships in your team by changing the way they connect and communicate with each other.

Using a new and creative language in your team will install a new social pathway.

Sign&Connect has designed a very innovative Sign Language Workshop to improve the quality of communication in your team.

We introduce Sign Language basic skills to your team in a very entertaining but educative way in a couple of starting training courses.

Once the group is familiar with the new basic Sign Language skills, we begin working on real professional matters.

In both one-to-one and meeting-wise working groups, we support the team to create a new communication working frame which will break down the bad habits like latent aggressive behaviors and unspoken words leading to misunderstanding of frustration.
